2010 chevrolet suburban review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The great american full-size suv. introductionthe suburban nameplate is the longest-running in chevrolet history. It is the first vehicle to reach 75 years of production and this year chevrolet will commemorate that milestone with a 2010 75th anniversary diamond edition model. Something that will tow a sizable trailer and carry lots of people or haul a load of cargo over primitive roads is an indispensible tool for those who need it. That's the suburban's mission. It has gotten more luxurious over the years, sometimes becoming a substitute for a large sedan. the suburban can handle 137 cubic feet of cargo, or up to nine passengers and 45 cubic feet of stuff, and myriad combinations in between. Two weight classes are offered, the normal 1500 and the heavy-duty 2500. the suburban's competitors in the full-size field are obvious. All the engines offer flex fuel capability, meaning they will operate on gasoline or e85, which is 85-percent ethanol. There is a 6. 0-liter with variable valve timing for the 2500 models. All radios have a usb port to accept compatible music devices. There are a couple of new options packages, and the 1lt trim level now includes tri-zone climate control, a bose nine-speaker premium audio system, power-adjustable pedals, remote start, rear park assist, and locking rear differential. The z71 off-road suspension is available on the 1lt trim level. lineupthe 2010 chevy suburban comes with 2wd or 4wd, and in half-ton 1500 series or three-quarter-ton 2500 series. All engines are e85-compatible, which means they will run on 85-percent ethanol fuel, and all have active fuel management (afm) which switches off half the cylinders when the additional power or idle smoothness isn't needed. Epa ratings for 1500 two-wheel-drive suburbans are 15 mpg city/21 mpg highway on gasoline and 11/16 mpg on e85. the 2500 heavier-duty suburban has different steering gear, brake parts, suspension, alternator, wheels, tires, axles and fuel tank than the 1500 series. Onstar is upgraded to directions & connections service, which includes turn-by-turn navigation. the very well-equipped ltz 2wd 52,880) and 4wd 55,625) models add navigation, xm navtraffic, second-row bucket seats, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather seating surfaces, three-zone automatic climate control, bose centerpoint surround sound, rear park assist, autoride suspension with rear air assist/self-leveling, and many other features and conveniences. a z71 off-road package 1,830) is offered only on the lt trim level, in 2wd or 4wd. Safety-related options include rear park assist, rear-view camera, and side blind zone alert. Side airbags are not available. walkaroundthe suburban's profile is elegant in its simplicity, no lines drawing the eye up or down, just a smooth clean surface from one end to the other like an aircraft. Big boxes are best carried in big boxes, not sloping hatchbacks. the suburban has a square-jawed face that's smooth and rugged at the same time, a twin to the shorter tahoe. The mesh grille is split by a gold chevy bowtie, and the daytime running lights use separate lamps and can be switched off for after-dark campground arrivals. The bumper fascia reveals a low license-plate holder sandwiched by openings for tow hooks, with small round fog lamps at the corners like single teardrops falling from the headlamp eyes. The seam between the fascia and fenders is very tight, and a good indication of gm's solid body quality on the current generation of trucks. the hood has two long bulges at its sides, reaching almost from windshield to grille; chevy calls these twin bulges the power dome; we call them a good way to keep such a large expanse of otherwise-flat steel from fluttering, just as long-cab pickups have grooves on the roof. For aesthetics we would prefer if the roof-mounted antenna were centered but long, flat cargo on the roof might present a problem. the rear liftgate is vertical, and the rear window opens independently, with both the manual and power liftgate, which is aluminum, reducing the weight and thus the effort to raise and lower it. Rear wiper coverage is average at best. Some are nearly void of chrome while the z71 adds machismo with sizable fender flares and side steps so short drivers can get in and tall ones can mess up their pant legs. the standard wheels are five-spoke, 17-inch aluminum. Polished wheels are available. Also available are 20-inch wheels that look good, but we think they are too big for grown-ups. Taller tire sidewalls yield a better ride and in most consumer-magazine testing those large-diameter wheels don't go, stop or handle any better, they just ride harder so we prefer the 17-inch wheels. With all the seats in place and set for passengers, 45. 8 cubic feet of cargo space is available, with 90 behind the second row with the third row removed. But there is a nice compartment over the left wheel well, for tools, flashlights, snow chains or the like. smart storage space abounds. The huge console has deep storage and a tray on top. There are two cup holders in a removable tray forward of the console, and one in each wide door pocket. With a middle-row bench seat the right third of the seat folds independently of the left, easing curb-side entry to the third row or allowing skis or boards on the right with two passengers on the left.

2006 chevrolet silverado 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Solid truck priced to sell. introductionthe 2006 chevy silverado is the last of its generation. An all-new generation of trucks is being introduced for 2007. So look for deals on the outgoing 2006 classic versions. The 2006 silverado rides well and handles well. It's quick and it's comfortable. Boxed and hydroformed frame rails provide a strong, rigid platform. It is, as the advertising tagline says, like a rock. Heated seats, a bose stereo, xm satellite radio and other options make long days spent in a silverado comfortable and enjoyable. silverado benefitted from some significant revisions for 2005. Lower-profile tires on 17-inch wheels provided better handling than before. A gas/electric hybrid option promised lower operating cost with v8 performance. More minor changes for 2005 included dual electric cooling fans, which are quieter and more efficient than the engine-driven fan used previously; while aerodynamic refinements to the front end and running boards reduced wind noise and promised a slight improvement in fuel economy. Since then, ford has introduced an all-new f-150, dodge has re-engineered the ram, nissan has rolled out the appropriately named titan, and toyota has joined the fray with the biggest tundra ever. There isn't a dog among them. Three trim levels are available: base, ls, and lt, plus a sporty ss. Full-width fleetside beds are standard, but retro sportside beds are offered for selected models. Avaialble only as a crew cab with a 6-foot, 6-inch bed (instead of the standard 1500 crew cab's 5-foot, 8-inch bed), the 1500hd hauls 3,073 pounds with 2wd, 2,766 pounds with 4wd, and tows 10,200 pounds. Power is provided by the big 6. 0-liter v8 that's used in the 2500hd/3500. standard equipment on all silverado models, even the most basic w/t (work truck), are air conditioning, am/fm stereo, tilt steering, a chromed front bumper, painter rear step bumber, and 17-inch painted steel wheels. moving up to ls trim (starting at $19,725) adds cloth instead of vinyl upholstery, a cd player, and an expanded list of options. Ls crew cabs 24,615) come with the 4. 8-liter v8 and automatic. Silverado lt (starting at $23,000) is more luxurious, with upgraded upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power windows, locks and mirrors. Again the crew cab version 28,165) comes with more, including an upgraded six-speaker stereo. The 5. 3-liter v8 is standard on lt crew cabs. Lt2 and lt3 option packages add yet more equipment, but both price and specific content depend on cab style, driveline, and other factors. Ss gets a high-performance z60 chassis package; 20-inch wheels and tires; full-time all-wheel drive; a lower, wider stance; and special exterior and interior trim. a hybrid option 1,500) is available in several states. Crew cab models offer a panasonic dvd passenger entertainment system 1,295) and rear-seat audio controls. Late in the model year, extended cabs and crew cabs will offer a power sunroof 795). A passenger-sensing system automatically deactivates the passenger-side front air bag under certain conditions to protect children. Active safety features include anti-lock brakes (abs) on all models. The silverado shares its bold design cues with the avalanche, the trailblazer suv, and the mid-size colorado pickup. The silverado looks more conteporary than the relatively conservative suburban and tahoe suvs. silverado's headlights angle down at the top like the determined eyebrows of a marine drill sergeant. A large band runs across the middle of the grille punctuated in the middle by a big, gold chevy bow tie. All of this is smoothly integrated into the front end, along with spaces for fog lamps and recessed tow hooks. The flared engine hood and squared-off wheel openings continue the aggressive theme down the sides of the truck. In the rear are bulging taillamps that maintain the chevrolet family look yet uniquely identify the silverado. silverado's large door openings make getting in and out easier, and the door handles are big and easy to grab. Optional puddle lamps mounted beneath the big side mirrors light the ground along the sides of the truck, handy in the woods and in the city. Heavy-duty models have running lights on the roof, tailgate, and leading and trailing edges of their bulging rear fenders. They add visibility for improved safety. Indentations stamped into the inner bed walls can hold boards to form bulkhead dividers or a second floor for two-tier loading. The silverado's load floor is 31. 6 inches above the ground on 2wd models, and 33. 7 inches with 4wd. That's relatively low, and low is good when loading heavy cargo. Short-box beds are 78. 7 inches long; long boxes are 97. 6 inches long. Fleetside boxes are 64. 8 inches wide (at the floor); sportside boxes measure 49. 1 inches wide. All fleetside boxes measure 50 inches wide between the wheel housings. a pro-tec composite box is available for silverado 1500 extended cab short-box models. Pro-tec is a nearly indestructible material that's lighter and stronger than steel. It never rusts and it resists dents. It can support a lot more weight than a steel tailgate. interiorinside, the silverado is roomy and comfortable. The seats are big and cushy, though we don't always find them comfortable for long trips. The standard front bench seat can seat three, giving extended cab and crew cab models capacity for six people. It's split 40/20/40, and the middle part folds down to become a center console/armrest. There's lots of head room and plenty of leg room, hip room, and shoulder room. The standard bench is available in cloth or vinyl. optional bucket seats are more comfortable and adjust every which way. We like both the premium cloth and the leather. The bucket seats are separated by a deep center console that holds lots of stuff. The top of the lid features a nice rubber-lined indention handy for small items, though it would be even better if the rubber was an insert that could be removed for cleaning. The top of the console is angled forward, which seems unfortunate because clipboards and other items placed there tend to slide off. A big coat hook makes picking up the dry cleaning easier. the instrument panel features a large speedometer and tachometer. Smaller gauges to the right display oil pressure, water temperature, fuel quantity, and battery charge. Hd models with the heavy-duty trailering package come with a transmission temperature gauge on the left. All use highly legible white-on-black graphics. Headlamps and taillamps turn on automatically when it gets dark. The manually controlled sy.
